Your Toyota is Smarter Than you Think

Your Toyota is smarter than you think. With the myToyota Connect app, you can unlock a whole new level of convenience, safety, and everyday perks that go beyond driving.

From checking your fuel level or booking your next service, to using the SOS button in an emergency, the app keeps you connected to your vehicle no matter where you are. It even brings lifestyle extras like daily Ampol fuel discounts and rewards, making ownership feel more seamless and rewarding.

Whether it’s cooling your car before you hop in on a hot Brisbane day, finding it in a packed Christmas shopping car park, or having peace of mind on a long road trip, myToyota Connect is designed to make life with your Toyota simpler.

For this article we caught up with Jon Wimhurst, one of our senior sales reps from the new car department to find out how the myToyota Connect app is helping his clients.

What is the myToyota Connect App?

The myToyota Connect app is all about making life with your Toyota simpler. Once it’s set up and linked to your car, it becomes a central hub that keeps you connected to your vehicle wherever you are.

It pulls all the basics into one place; your VIN, service history, manuals, and even booking your next service directly with your dealer. But where it really shines is in the Connected Services. Depending on your model, you can see your fuel level and odometer, check your car’s status, locate it on a map, or even lock, unlock, and start it from your phone.

On top of that, Toyota has built in some great lifestyle perks. Through a partnership with Ampol, you can unlock daily fuel discounts, and the app also gives you access to rewards like discounted movie tickets and merchandise. For many owners, it’s that mix of practical features, like knowing how much fuel is left or having an SOS button if something goes wrong, combined with those everyday savings that makes the app so handy.

SOS Function for Emergencies, Road Trips and Remote Travel

The SOS button above the rear-view mirror is one of the most important features of Toyota Connected vehicles. Its main job is for emergencies, if you’ve been in an accident or have a medical issue, pressing it connects you to Toyota’s emergency response team within half a minute. From there, help can be sent straight to your location.

But it doesn’t stop there. Because it uses the car’s own communication unit, it still works even when your phone has no signal. That makes it invaluable for road trips and 4WD adventures in areas with patchy coverage. Whether you’ve blown a tyre on a country highway, run out of fuel in the outback, or broken down on a track, you’re not left stranded with no way to call for help.

In a country as big as Australia, that kind of backup is a real confidence booster. Families heading away for holidays, drivers covering long distances, or anyone who loves exploring remote areas can travel knowing there’s always a way to reach someone if things don’t go to plan.

Beating Fuel Price Swings with Fuel Level Check

We all know how unpredictable fuel prices can be. One day it’s cheap, the next day it jumps by 40 cents a litre. That’s where the fuel level check in the app really earns its keep.

If you’ve got more than one Toyota in the household, you can link each car to the app using the garage feature and check their fuel levels at a glance. So when you see prices starting to jump, you’ll know straight away which car needs topping up before it costs you more. Instead of each family member guessing or forgetting, it’s all right there on your phone.

Using the garage feature is particularly useful in busy households. Maybe the teenager’s borrowed the Corolla, your partner’s using the Prado, and you’re driving the HiLux. A quick look in the app tells you which ones need fuel, and you can send a message saying, “Fill up today before the price hike.” When you add in the Ampol fuel discounts built into the app, it’s an easy way for families to stay ahead of the price cycle and save real money.

Finding Your Car in Busy Car Parks or After a Night Out

We’ve all done it. You park at Westfield in December, spend hours Christmas shopping, and then can’t remember which end of the shopping centre you left the car on. Or you’re out for dinner and drinks in the city, wander a few streets, and later forget exactly where you parked.

The car locator feature takes the frustration out of those moments. It records your vehicle’s last parked location and shows it on a map in the app. It’s not pinpoint to the metre, but it will get you to the right street or car park zone quickly. That means less wandering around with bags, kids, or late at night when you just want to get home.

It’s one of those small features that you don’t think much about until you need it, and then it makes life a whole lot easier.

Remote Start for Hot Brisbane Summers

Brisbane summers are tough. Walk back to your car after lunch and it feels like climbing into an oven, the seats are hot, the steering wheel burns your hands, and the air is stifling.

With remote start in the myToyota Connect app, you can fire up the engine from your phone on a 10-minute timer. The doors stay locked, but the air conditioning kicks back in with whatever settings you left it on. By the time you reach the car, the cabin is already cool and comfortable.

It’s a simple thing, but in the middle of a Brisbane summer, it makes every trip more pleasant. And as a bonus, it can also double as a handy social timer, set the 10-minute countdown at the end of a catch-up, and when the app has cooled the car, it’s the perfect cue to say your goodbyes and make an easy exit.

Booking Your Car Service

One of the handiest parts of the myToyota Connect app is how simple it makes booking your Toyota in for a service. Once the app is set up and your preferred dealer is saved, you can jump on anytime (day or night) and book straight through. It’s especially useful if you’re a shift worker or just busy during the day, because you don’t have to wait for business hours or sit on the phone.

When the request comes through to Downtown Toyota, our service team checks availability, lines everything up, and gets back to you with a confirmation by text or phone call. That way you know the time’s locked in before you even bring the car down.

Jon often explains it as taking away the back and forth, instead of trying to catch the service desk at the right moment, you can make the booking when it suits you. It’s quick, convenient, and gives you that peace of mind that your car’s service is already organised and ready to go.

Why Downtown Toyota?

At Brisbane's Downtown Toyota, we don’t just hand over the keys and tell you there’s an app. We sit with you, help you download it, link it to your car, and walk through the setup in real time. You’ll see how the SOS button works, how to start your car remotely, and how to check your fuel levels or locate your car.

The idea is to make sure you drive away not only with a new Toyota, but also with the confidence to use every tool at your disposal. The app is like an extra screwdriver in your toolkit, you might not use it every day, but when you need it, it’s invaluable. From safety on the road to saving money at the pump, we want every customer to know how to get the most out of myToyota Connect from day one.
