This month’s Trailblazer Award goes to Federico Schonfeld, a valued member of our predelivery detailing team whose focus on precision, teamwork, and customer satisfaction makes a lasting impression.
Federico has been with Downtown Toyota for just over two years, but his journey here is anything but ordinary. Before moving to Australia, he worked in the metalworking industry in Argentina, operating overhead cranes to load and unload heavy materials. Seeking new adventures and challenges, he made the move to Brisbane and, by chance, came across a job posting at the dealership. Despite having little direct experience in automotive detailing, his lifelong passion for cars inspired him to apply.
“I didn’t have much direct experience in this field, but I had a strong passion for cars. Now, two years later, I’m very happy to be part of the team and enjoy working with such a supportive and professional group,” Federico shares.
As a detailer in the predelivery department, Federico’s mornings begin with the daily list of vehicles scheduled for handover. His role covers every step of the preparation process: fueling the car, removing protective covers, washing and polishing, checking tyre pressure, configuring the radio, placing mats, detailing paint and glass, and often installing accessories. He attaches plates, finalises paperwork, and makes sure each vehicle is ready for delivery.
“I want each car to look spotless, as shiny and beautiful as possible, so it creates a great impact for the customers during such a special moment, when they pick up their new vehicle,” he adds.
The predelivery area is one of the busiest in the dealership, particularly on days when multiple cars are due to go out at once. Federico thrives under this pressure by leaning on organisation and teamwork.
“The busiest days can be the most challenging, but we manage it by staying organised and working together as a team to reach our goals,” he mentions.
Challenges also arise when new models arrive and accessories need to be fitted without prior familiarity. These moments call for problem-solving and creativity, which Fedrico explains as the team coming together to apply creativity and teamwork in order to find the best solution.
Federico has grown quickly in his role, thanks to guidance from colleagues such as Antony, who has trained him in polishing, paint protection, and accessory installation. He values the culture he has found at Downtown Toyota, describing it as supportive, collaborative, and focused on delivering the best for the customer.
“It’s a culture built on strong teamwork, always focused on delivering the best for the customer. We also feel constant support from our leaders, who are right there with us every day,” he shares.
For Federico, knowing his work contributes directly to customer satisfaction is a point of pride.
“If we make sure every car looks impeccable, then the customer leaves happy. And a happy customer always contributes to the overall success of the dealership,” he said.
Looking ahead, Federico hopes to continue his training, develop new skills, and eventually mentor others as they join the team. His secret ingredient for success remains unchanged, treating every vehicle as if it were his own by always asking himself how he would like his own car to be delivered, and holding that as the standard every time.
Outside of work, Federico enjoys the outdoors. Camping, cycling, and spending time with family and friends are his favourite ways to unwind, and he loves hosting a barbecue whenever he can. It’s a balance that mirrors the pride he takes in his work, whether it’s preparing a car for delivery or planning a weekend adventure, Federico brings the same energy, focus, and dedication to everything he does.
