Engine Stop-Start Technology Across the Range

And that means the Rav4 needs to be as good in traffic as it is on the dirt. For the 2022 model year, all petrol variants of the Rav4 will be updated with Toyota’s engine start-stop technology.
If you’ve spent any time commuting to work or dropping the kids off at school during peak hours, you know how tough city traffic can be. Toyota’s start-stop engine technology is designed to combat the trend of sitting in traffic and wasting fuel. Whenever you come to a complete halt, the start and stop circuit will switch your car off and place it into standby mode. Then, when you apply the accelerator to take off, the engine turns back on automatically and you can resume driving. The process takes just a few moments and doesn’t impact the way the Rav4 drives. But even if you can’t feel the difference from the driver’s seat, you’ll definitely notice it when it comes time to fill up. Engine start-stop systems can improve fuel economy by as much as 8% in heavy traffic, giving the Rav4 an even bigger boost to its fuel consumption.
Rav4 2022 New Hybrid Trim Levels
Toyota Australia is planning for the future, and that means we’re delivering on our promise to make hybrid and alternative powertrains a reality. For 2022, the Rav4 Hybrid will be receiving two new trim levels, giving customers even more options when they’re hunting for a new hybrid car. The two new trim levels are:
- XSE Hybrid - slotting in between the existing GXL and Cruiser grades, the XSE Hybrid features tough exterior updates and cool tech additions like the powered rear door and state of the art infotainment. The XSE Hybrid is available in both 2WD and AWD variants.
- Edge Hybrid - standing at the top of our lineup and featuring our most powerful 2.5L, 163kW hybrid engine option, the Edge Hybrid includes a facelifted front-end and Toyota’s E-Four AWD system for four-wheel-drive on demand. The Edge Hybrid is also set to receive Toyota’s rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA) and parking support brake (PSB) systems. These work together to allow your Rav4 to automatically brake when it detects traffic in places that the driver might not be able to see, like when you’re backing out of a parking spot.
Striking Facelift with Redesigned LED Headlights
The Rav4 lineup is heading for a brighter future, with all models now receiving fog lamps that have been upgraded to long-lasting LED bulbs. The new fog lights across the range are complemented by redesigned headlights on the hybrid variants of the Rav4. The new headlights now combine the high and low beam, indicators, parking lights and daytime running lights into one unit. Also powered by LED technology, these new headlights round out the 2022 facelift, updating the look and feel of the Rav4 while also improving the nighttime driving experience.
