Tech Changes for the 2022 Toyota HiAce

Toyota Australia has recently announced a raft of changes for the 2022 model year of the ever-popular Toyota HiAce and HiAce Commuter Bus! One of the top-selling work and people-moving vans in the segment, the HiAce is our most versatile offering, with vans coming in Long Wheel Base and Super Long Wheel Base variants, as well as crew, cargo and bus configurations. For the 2022 update, Toyota wanted to focus on delivering more of the safety features our customers want, so we’ve packed the HiAce full of our latest tech to keep you safe while you’re on the road and on the job.

Toyota Connected Services

The 2022 Toyota HiAce comes as standard with 3 years of complimentary access to Toyota Connected Services. Toyota Connected Services provide access to safety features that keep your van connected to Toyota’s 24/7 Emergency Call Centre. Included with Toyota Connected Services are the SOS Emergency Call (SOS), Automatic Collision Notification (ACN) and Stolen Vehicle Tracking (SVT) systems.

.

If you’re in an accident, the ACN system will automatically get in touch with our Emergency Centre. If you need help or don’t respond to the call, we’ll immediately contact emergency services and send them to your location. This works together with the SOS system that allows the driver to connect to a Toyota agent at the press of a button. Using the SOS system, Toyota can provide your vehicle’s location to emergency services whenever you need help.

Finally, HiAce now comes fitted with our Stolen Vehicle Tracking. In the unfortunate event that a thief tries to make off with a van full of tools and equipment, SVT can track your van’s location and aid in recovering the vehicle.

Updated Safety Features

The HiAce is a world-class work vehicle, and Toyota has continued the trend with a 2022 update that sees the best of our safety tech being fitted to every HiAce. All variants of the HiAce now come standard with Toyota’s range of on-road safety features, such as lane departure warning, road sign assist and our pre-collision safety system. The pre-collision system uses a front-mounted camera and radar array to monitor the road around you and provide warnings about potential frontal collisions. The pre-collision system is also paired with smart pedestrian and daytime cyclist detection that helps drivers take necessary precautions while on the road.

Engine Changes

Also new for the 2022 model year is the news that Toyota is dropping the 3.5L petrol V6 engine. The HiAce will now come with our overwhelmingly popular 2.8L turbo diesel inline four engine. The turbo-diesel option has long been one of Toyota’s top engines, and it can also be found in our toughest vehicles like the HiLux and Prado. For the 2022 model year, the 2.8L engine produces 130kW of power and 450Nm of torque, giving your HiAce enough grunt to haul a van full of tradies and still tow a trailer behind it. The updated 2.8L diesel is also more fuel-efficient than ever, saving you money at the bowser and helping you go further between fill-ups.
