If you've ever had the pleasure of meeting Nav from our New Cars team, you’ll know he’s not just a top performer, he’s the kind of person who lights up the room, keeps the team energised, and makes the car-buying experience feel like a celebration.
Originally from New Zealand, Nav made the move to Brisbane in search of warmer weather and new opportunities. With a background in audio sales, travelling the country and connecting with customers over high-end sound systems, Nav’s always had a knack for helping people discover something exciting. Now, it just happens to be their next Toyota.
Nav's approach to car sales is all about the journey. “It’s not just about the vehicle, it’s the whole process,” he explains. From the test drive to the delivery day photos, he thrives on building a memorable, meaningful experience for every customer. What keeps him focused? The thrill of a new car handover, the joy on a customer’s face, and the drive to stay ahead.
“I’m competitive,” he laughs, crediting his siblings for keeping him on his toes. “Even growing up, they were always trying to outdo me. That stuck with me, I’m always pushing myself to be better.”
Every job has its challenges, and Nav tackles them head-on with curiosity and collaboration. “If I don’t know something, I’ll go find out. I always ask questions, especially from our senior team, before making a call.”
When Queensland weather threw a curveball at one of his deliveries, Nav adapted on the fly, setting up a full handover experience inside the delivery bay, complete with a bow and walkaround. “The customer could picture the whole moment. It was back to front, but it worked.”
Despite working in a high-pressure environment, Nav brings an unmistakable lightness to the team. “I think just keeping the vibe positive is huge. Whether it’s a quick joke, a smile, or helping out when someone’s off sick, we all lift each other.”
Nicole from HR describes him as “the kind of teammate everyone wants, always dependable, always smiling, and never hesitates to go out of his way to help others.” She adds, “He’s a true team player and a well-deserved winner.”
That same sentiment is echoed by Phil, our General Sales Manager, who says Nav is “a real standout, smart, driven, and always looking to learn.” He adds, “He’s the first to put his hand up to help, and his sense of humour lifts the whole team. He’s a genuine guy with a great attitude, a well-deserved Golden Boot winner.”
Nav is also quick to credit the team around him. “We’re a diverse bunch, but we just get each other,” he says. “We work in close quarters and somehow, it clicks. Everyone brings something different, and that’s what makes it work.”
Nav sees every interaction as a learning opportunity, and that mindset has helped him grow fast in his first dealership role. From navigating vehicle legalities to mastering the end-to-end sales process, he’s built a well-rounded foundation in a short time.
His advice to newcomers? “Start every day with an open mind. You’ll learn something new if you let yourself.”
One of Nav’s biggest strengths is his proactive mindset, especially when it comes to moving stock. “If we’ve got something available, I want it on the road. It’s about matching customers with cars we have now, without the long wait times. And if it does need to be ordered, I know how to manage that expectation with a bit of excitement.”
Nav loves what he does and sees his future right here at Downtown Toyota. “Sales is part of me,” he says. “But longer term, I’d love to take on more responsibility, maybe mentoring or helping others grow. It’s about progression.”
