The Gateway Learning Community (GLC) is a network of seven state schools in the Brisbane South District of Education Queensland, who since 2002, have forged a vibrant partnership to enhance educational opportunities for their students, staff, parents and their extended school communities. The member schools incorporate 250 staff, over 2500 students and the wider school communities of Balmoral State High School, Bulimba State School, Cannon Hill State School, Morningside State School, Murrarie State School, Norman Park State School & Seven Hills State School.
Downtown Toyota is proud to be associated with 2 specific GLC initiatives. The first being "GLC Chaplaincy" and the other being "Big Night Out".
Downtown Toyota recognises school families are not immune to life issues such as illness, divorce and bereavement. The GLC schools have found that chaplains assist to build resilience in the children and their families. Downtown Toyota understands the value of having chaplains in schools and has thrown its support, both financial and otherwise, right behind the program.
Want to learn more about GLC Chaplaincy please contact Andrew Walker, Principal Norman Park State School, on 3399 2777.
The GLC's "Big Night Out" has been staged annually since 2003. The event brings around 5,000 people together in an evening to showcase and celebrate children's learning. The "Big Night Out" is a huge feat of community involvement and collaboration with the mission not to fundraise, but to build community spirit and co-operation. A first in 2008 was the creation of a precinct dedicated towards showcasing environmentally sustainable practices. This precinct called "Sustainability Grove" was sponsored by Downtown Toyota. Families could learn about hybrid vehicles and inspect a Toyota Prius, get up close and personal to native animals and learn about local bushland revegetation. Also there were plenty of fun rides, face painting and giant games especially selected to encourage active participation. Downtown Toyota will once again be an active business supporter and sponsor of the GLC's Big Night Out in 2010.

Cannon Hill Anglican College (CHAC)
In May 2008 Cannon Hill Anglican College hosted a Wetlands Festival. The Wetlands Festival is a bi-annual community event. The festival is themed around Environment, Community and Sustainability and is a major fund-raising event for the P&F, with profits being donated back to the College.
Downtown Toyota worked closely with CHAC's P&F to promote the 2010 Wetlands Festival. Everyone has an important role to play in caring for the environment and this is something that is reflected in everything Downtown Toyota does - from how our cars are manufactured to how we interact with our community. The next Wetlands Festival will be held in 2012.

National Tree Day 2010
National Tree Day, proudly sponsored by Toyota, is Australia's biggest community tree planting event. National Tree Day has been an annual project for Toyota since 1999. Cannon Hill Anglican College (CHAC), Planet Ark and Downtown Toyota teamed up in 2010 in support of School's Tree Day. On Friday July 30, 2010 a number of CHAC students along with Nick Pappas, Managing Director participated in a local school tree planting project. . Downtown Toyota donated T-shirts, Gloves, Stakes, Plant protector shields and saplings which were planted in and around the CHAC school grounds.
CHAC's tree day activities also coincided with CHAC's annual Open Day where special guests Kevin Rudd and Di Farmer addressed open day attendees in the school auditorium. A number of students from the senior school right through to the junior school provided their own personal insights into life as a student at CHAC. The highlight being the performance of the CHAC school orchestra which performed for all.
This year Downtown Toyota also proudly sponsored Bulimba State School's Tree Day. Downtown Toyota donated T-shirts, Gloves, Stakes, Plant protector shields and saplings. On Friday July 30, 2010 teachers, students and staff from Downtown Toyota came together to plant the new saplings around the chook yard and school grounds. Bulimba State School is an environmentally friendly school. Downtown Toyota's Managing Director, Nick Pappas, presented the new Toyota Camry Hybrid to the young students explaining Toyota's hybrid technology and answered some pretty tricky questions from the kids.
